Why Move to Onalaska

Onalaska is located in Lewis County, Washington just a few miles southeast of Chehalis. The town is home of the Onalaska Apple Harvest Festival, and beautiful Carlisle Lake. A wonderful community, many recreational opportunities and natural beauty.

The South Fork of the Newaukum forms the southern edge of the community, and Carlisle Lake is on the western edge. The Newaukum River flows west to the Chehalis River at Chehalis.

Beyond the Obvious

Be careful not to confuse Onalaska, Washington, with the other towns that share the same name.

The community of Onalaska got its name from a poem called “The Pleasures of Hope” by Scottish poet Thomas Campbell. In the poem, the place was originally called Oonalaska, but it was shortened. The name was first used for a company lumber town in Arkansas. After that, this naming became a company tradition, and today, there are still towns named Onalaska in Wisconsin, Texas, and Washington.
